Hyeonchungsa Shrine, or Admiral Yi's Shrine

Hyeonchungsa Shrine, or Admiral Yi's Shrine

This is a beautiful location to have a picnic, take family photos and learn a little more about Korean naval efforts. Also there is archery and feeding koi fish. Admiral Yi Sunsin grew up here, so his house is still here.

Address:
Baekam-ri 100, Yeomchi-eup, Asan-si, Chungcheongnam-do
충남 아산시 염치읍 현충사길 130 (no idea what this says)

When you see this sign, turn left.

In the parking lot, there are little vendors where you can get drinks, snacks and delicious ice cream!

Head to the entrance:

There is archery available from 2-4. We really don't know any other info ;)

Beautiful architecture!

Lovely flowers!

Picturesque trees!

Feed the Koi Fish!

So much serenity...

Archery field where Admiral Yi taught his sons to shoot.

Water fountain anyone? You can use one of the cups provided :)

Admiral Yi's Home!

The Kitchen!

This looks like a great place to do yoga or martial arts forms!

The Main Shrine - commemorating Admiral Yi's impact on Korean history.

The vessel pictured below had little sticks that could be lit on fire in memory of Admiral Yi.

I was lucky enough to witness a family coming to pay their respects.

She said "gam sa ham ni da," which means thank you.
(One of only two words I know.)
I felt honored to see their thanksgiving and reverence.

Wisteria path! I'm told when the wisteria blooms, this pathway is magical in its beauty!
I can't wait to see it next year. It's too late in the summer now.

This is the steepest path to take (from the left) - to avoid this walk, follow the pathways to the right and head up to the main shrine from the right.

There is a small indoor exhibit showing the turtle ships and some of Korea's naval history.
This is a very small replica ;)

Even small replica ;)

Also there was a temporary sword exhibit.
Unfortunately, all of the info was in Hangul (the official written Korean language), so I couldn't read anything :(

I will definitely come back here again!
